this is such a great interview, and so helpful to see things from the bookstore side!
but also, Cassie, I would *love* for you to write about book events + The Art of Gathering--I've been thinking about something you wrote previously about how an event needs to *offer* something, not just be a reading, and I'd love to know how you're thinking about The Art of Gathering in this context. (I really like the book, and I get her argument about being a "generous host" conceptually . . . but I have time thinking about how to take up those ideas in my own social life with feeling too bossy/corny/etc!)
It's coming! I've been mapping the book with my thoughts so I'm hoping it'll be in next month's newsletter.
The bossy is real ISN'T IT? And it's especially real when you're in a space that's not yours--like the bookstore (or event space) is hosting you, but you want to control the "vibe" of the event. I am very much determined to figure out how to do these types of events a little bit differently so that reading and conversation is not our only option forever and ever amen.
I do love the book, I think she's so smart and strategic and I've been thinking about how much the small things matter in context of it!

What a great interview! The questions were smart, and the responses were clever. I felt like I was sitting over coffee with both of you. It was cozy.
love this convoooo. Also, CHLORINE is so wild and I agree that it needs to be a movie asap.
wild is just the BEST word to describe any book, haha.
