I’m not a publicist and have no idea what anyone is looking for these days, but that’s one heck of a list you came up with. Here’s a blurb for it: “What we do in the Southern Gothic shadows.”
Do lines like "Flannery O'Connor meets M. Night Shyamalan" do anything for anyone any more?
Loving your Substack (just discovered it today). I'm a southern writer with a small press, and I'm completely bewildered by the idea of marketing and publicity, even though I did that in my day job for many years. (I think I may have queried you once upon a time even.)
I think ask yourself if they do something for you? Would you open the email? That sounds really interesting to me but only because those are two starkly different and somehow within the same Venn diagram folks? It's the dark underlay maybe, or the mystery below the surface of things that both seem obsessed with. But if it doesn't interest you, it's not going to interest your readers. Also, in a brief amount of space (say a tweet) that does a bit of work, yes? Depends on the audience! Depends on the space!
